Even brand new windows need to be maintained to keep them looking great and keep them valid under warranty. Vinyl windows are fairly low maintenance as is and they are meant to last a long time however you do need to do your part in maintaining them yourself.
Cleaning the glass of the windows is fairly easy and the cleaners used, you may already have in your home. A mild soap with a soft cloth or sponge is best to use; making sure that it’s not an ammonia or alcohol based cleaner to avoid streaks. Circular motions work best when cleaning the glass part of the window and wipe down with a dry cloth to avoid water spots and water damage in the frames.
Because we get so much rain here in the Pacific Northwest, the exteriors of your home windows may be pretty clean from dirt and debris. However cleaning the exterior frame a couple times a year will help prevent discoloration and deterioration. The same mild soap and can be used to clean the exterior frame of your windows. A softer material should be used to wash the clean the windows, something like a microfiber cloth or soft bristle brush; afterwards rinse with water to avoid water spots.
Window screens should be handled very carefully as they can be fragile. They are easy to clean, just use mild soap and water as usual for the windows.
When cleaning your windows, try your best to do it on a cloudier day, if the soap is exposed to direct sunlight it may dry too quickly and leave a residue.
