Scrolling through your Facebook timeline will generally yield all sorts of things, such as cat pictures, memories and of course DIY videos. These videos range from cooking ideas, to organizational skills, all the way to home improvement ideas. While some are practical and definitely effective, some aren't and can result in mistakes that'll end up costing you too much time and money than it's worth to do it right in the first place.
Granted, most DIY videos are meant to be practical and minimalistic in nature. However, you do get some that are a little bit more intense than others. Some are made by professionals with their industrial grade tools. This is misleading because it does not differentiate between two different groups of people with different skills. Here are some of the cons to trying to do certain projects on your own.
Roof:
Roofs are a big project and may seem simple when seeing a team working on one. the truth is, that is months of work and time taken to survey each minute detail. Working on a roof also depends on your location. The type of room that is installed in Arizona is going to be different than one that's installed in Washington.
Installing your own roof is time costly as well. A crew of 3-4 workers can install a roof, generally in half the time a single person can do this. Not only does it take up you a huge amount of time, but the materials are not cheap either. When you go with a contractor, materials are included in the general price. with this, the cost is taken care of, and the research for getting the right roofing materials is not something you'll need to worry about.
Windows:
Windows are a lot harder to do yourself. The reason being measurements, correct windows and access to manufacturers. Someone that is not familiar with measuring for windows can easily make mistakes, even though this may not be the intention, this can easily happen.
Anyone that has shopped for windows know that getting the correct window for your region is a huge part of the equation. in Texas you may only want single pane windows, while in Maine, you'll need double, maybe even triple pane windows. This important because choosing the right number can save you on your electric bill. While the savings are relative, this is definitely a factor to consider.
